While fans haven't seen The Mountain fight since he became a zombie-like servant, it's clear that he lost any hope of being anything other than a killing machine.

This is true both literally (three different actors have portrayed him), and within the confines of the show, because he turns into a zombie (or something). It happens because the Mountain ends up fighting Oberyn Martell after Tyrion Lannister is accused of murdering Joffrey and requests trial-by-combat.
